Modeling and Impact Assessment of Solar Farm Expansion in Agricultural Areas Using Geomatics
This project entitled "Modeling and Impact Assessment of Solar Farm Expansion in Agricultural Areas Using Geomatics" is funded by the UP Diliman's Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development under the Ph.D. Incentive Award. The objectives of the study are:
produce a solar PV suitability index to identify areas which have high potential for solar PV installation
predict areas which are most likely be converted to solar farms based on time-series analysis and machine learning algorithm
assess the costs and benefits of agricultural land conversion to solar farm
Project duration: 1.5 years
Period of implementation: Aug. 1, 2023 - Jan. 31, 2025
Project SINAG is a two-year research project under the Joint Research Project between the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) of the Philippines and the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) of the People's Republic of China. DOST is the funding agency of the Philippine counterpart.
The project has officially started on August 1, 2021 and is being implemented by the Training Center for Applied Geodesy and Photogrammetry and National Engineering Center. The project aims to accurately assess the potential output power that can be harnessed from Solar PV installations using remotely sensed data and forecasting model.
